Game on! Hanna just make things a bit blowy and soggy for a while Saturday so fencing will continue as scheduled Monday evening. Remember, if the high school's gym is occupied, we'll be in the cafeteria across the hallway.

Don't forget about the new dues! You can bring payment with you to the club or you can make a secure payment online here. And some you have already noticed the new option on that page that lets you sign up for  automatically emailed payment reminders so you don't have to worry about forgetting. Go ahead, give it a try!

Registration is now open for the next beginner and intermediate classes in Poquoson. Visit the Poquoson Fencing Club site for more details.

Volunteers needed! We've been invited to demonstrate fencing to a group of Brownies from around the area! The event is scheduled for Friday, November 14, from 4:30 to 7:30 and will be in the Great Bridge part of Chesapeake. (I know the time frame is difficult.) We'll either do a 25-30 minute presentation at the beginning of the event or a few 30 minute presentations throughout the evening, depending on if anyone can help out or not. Drop me a note if you think you can -- I won't hold you to it as it's early and I know plans can change. I just need to start putting together a general idea of what we can and can't do that night. Thanks!

Club swag: The Catalog of Official Club Swag is open for business! Orders are being taken effective immediately and the sooner you turn your order in, the sooner we'll have enough individual orders to submit the club order. (A minimum quantity of items has to be ordered before we can get the discount on which the catalog prices are based.) As with dues and equipment orders, you can pay me directly or pay securely online here.

Orders will be taken on a continuing basis. Whenever we have enough to submit a club order, I'll make an announcement that the order will be submitted on whatever date so everyone has a chance to get in on it. If you miss that club order, just turn in your order whenever you're ready and your items will be included in the next one!

Speaking of orders, the next equipment order will be sent in on Monday, September 8. You can bring your order info and payment to the next class/club session or you can email the order to me and make a secure payment online.

Wet and Wild Water Balloon photos are up! (Well, at least the ones I have, nudge, hint, nudge.)

Also, a link to our video site has been added to all photo pages. Send in your videos, too!

The Olympics are over but the club's Olypmics info page lives on! A permanent link to the page has been added to the links page so you can relive those great moments for as long as they're still out there!

Ten thousand fencers

'Ten Thousand Fencers' is an effort spearheaded by Olympic saberist Tim Morehouse and Craig Harkins of Fencing.net. The goal? To get ten thousand new people to try out the sport of fencing. Both new and experienced fencers are welcome to sign up. If you'd like to be counted among the ten thousand, click on the badge to the right and off you go! When asked who referred you, feel free to list Isle of Wight Fencing Club or Poquoson Fencing Club. We'll be the little clubs that roar!

Want to be kept in the loop on club news, such as when the next class will be offered?  Click here to be added to our email list so you can be notified of when a new class is scheduled, as well as receive other club-related announcements.  (Addresses are used solely by the coach for this purpose.  They are not shared or made public in any way.)

Can I enter that tournament?  What equipment do I need?   Can I take pictures?  How do pool scoresheets work?  Answers to these questions and more can found here!  How to Go to a Fencing Tournament was written for both fencers and non-fencers.  Right-click on the link and choose 'Save Target As' or 'Save Link As' to download the .pdf file to your computer or left click the link to open it in your browser window.

To our friends in the UK: Looking for the fencing club in the original Isle of Wight, the one that really is an isle and is located just off the coast of England?  Please visit the Solent Swords crew (and say 'hi' for us when you do!).  But of course, if you find yourself in southeastern Virginia, USA, feel free to stop by and say hi to us, too!
